Implementation

  • French is taught in EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
  • There is a two year cycle for EYFS and Key Stage 1, then a four year cycle of Key Stage 2.
  • Long term planning that is carefully tailored to the curriculum drivers whilst completing the National Curriculum Programme of study.
  • North Yorkshires scheme of learning has been adopted for Key Stage 2 languages.
  • EYFS and Key Stage 1 languages focus on learning French through songs.
  • Specific vocabulary teaching within lessons.
  • A school topic on France to support children knowledge of languages.
  • Alternative methods of communication is taught within school e.g. Makaton and Sign Language
