Intent
Confident to speak with good intonation and pronunciation.

Implementation
French is taught in EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
There is a two year cycle for EYFS and Key Stage 1, then a four year cycle of Key Stage 2.
Long term planning that is carefully tailored to the curriculum drivers whilst completing the National Curriculum Programme of study.
North Yorkshires scheme of learning has been adopted for Key Stage 2 languages.
EYFS and Key Stage 1 languages focus on learning French through songs.
Specific vocabulary teaching within lessons.
A school topic on France to support children knowledge of languages.
Alternative methods of communication is taught within school e.g. Makaton and Sign Language

Children are confident to communicate in French, Makaton or Sign Language.
All children make good or better progress.
Confident, independent and resilient learners.
