Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) – Nursery

In Terrington Nursery we aim to create a homely environment where children feel safe, comfortable and immersed in our family approach. We pride ourselves on being unique and offering a nurturing, rich and stimulating environment in which all children will flourish and reach their full potential. The children are seen as individuals and independent learners, their needs are identified and responded to through our individual next steps which challenges themselves. These are sparked from their own interests, to ignite an enthusiasm for learning about the world through the play-based approach.

How children are welcomed into our environment

Once they have turned three and are ready to start, we will offer you half day taster session each week until the term after their third birthday. This helps your child to settle into the environment and begin to build relationships with our Early Years team before starting properly. Once started, parents are welcome to stay in a morning until their child has settled, supported by our staggered start to the school day between 8:50am-9am. Through regular communications between staff and parents/ carers we can assure you how your child is settling.

In our recent report, Ofsted (2018) stated: ‘Children in the early years progress well. They are supported well by very able adults who engage them in their learning through effective questioning. Lessons are planned to fit with the interests of the children and this really motivated the children to learn.’
